Real and very original 1973 Pontiac Trans am 4 speed ! with 455 big block, in the factory original highly wanted Buccaneer Red with black bucket seat interior of which were very proud to be able to offer it to our clients.
Of the only 4550 Trans am's produced in 1973, only around 1380 were 4 speeds, and this car is one of that rare cars. Its highly original and comes with the factory original drivetrain and engine !. This car is even rarer seeing its an original Canada export car and only 130 of these cars were exported and in this buccaneer red color and real original hood decal car its maybe one of a hand full build cars. Today who knows how many are left, but we can assure you that in this great and original condition you won't find a better one soon if ever
The 73' Trans am's were a one year only model and the first year you could choose the extra cost option with the "Screaming chicken" hood decal's, and the last year of the smaller, chrome taillights. Its also one of the highest wanted Trans am models ever and the last year to have a 4 speed manual transmission combined with the 455 R/A engine. Many cars you come across have many options installed later on but on this car, it's all correct and original. The only car that was even rarer was the Super-Duty engined 455, but these cars are in a league of there own and are almost priceless because they were built even less than the 455 version. But on the streets, the 455 and the 455SD cars were not that much different, to say the least, it's just that the SD cars are rarer as they have been sold even less than the 455 T/A's.
Many people think that the spoiler kit around the Trans Am is only there for the looks, but the couldn't be more wrong.., The 70 and up designed Pontiac Trans Am's were one of the first cars designed in a proper wind tunnel and everything was designed with aerodynamics and downforce in mind. The Pontiac design team really did a great job at that as the car really drives well even at very high speeds. The base Firebird was already designed very smooth and aerodynamic but the Trans am was really designed one or maybe even two steps up the ladder and the body spoiler kit really added some points to the wind flow scale. The nice benefit was that it didn't only improve the car's overall performance and stability, but it also looked fast and sporty as well.
Keep in mind that we're talking about the early 70's here, a period of time where aerodynamics was a word that most people still thought was science fiction. No, the Pontiac Trans am was by far not designed for its looks alone, it was a car way ahead of its time and a great asset to performance car history in general and more and more people are beginning to realize that and that's part of why these cars are becoming so hard to find.
This car we present to you was restored a few years ago and the complete engine and transmission was also rebuilt, as far as we can tell, as well as the previous owner, all the body panels, chassis parts and floors are original to the car and we cant find any traces of welding done to it. The car also drives like its new and everything on this great car is in good, to very good condition. More than 50k was invested in the resto alone. It's a very rare all original car in a fantastic original condition. 73' firebirds, especially the trans am's were one of the best handling and steering muscle cars around on the streets and they were still very fast and powerful. With the changed rules in 1973 of measuring HP and Torq on factory engine's ( Before 73' that was done to the SAE standards and after '73 in DIN ) it's NOT so that the 73'cars had much less horsepower than the 70-72 models.
The only real thing changed was the fact that as from '73 the car manufacturers had to claim the outputs in the lower DIN norm. This monster 455 cui delivered 325 SAE HP in 72, and it still did so in 1973... This car, being a 4-speed manual trans car, makes the car even more sporty and way faster than the automatic trans cars. As with an automatic car, due to there hydraulic functions, you can loose up to 35/40% of the Engine HP to the rear axle as were the 4 speeds only loose around 5%. But besides that, its so much more fun in a muscle car to have a 4 speed seeing you can really play around with the engine torque and power bands in any RPM range you feel. Big fun! Its even been stated that the 455 4 speed was faster than the 455-super duty automatic cars !, which we can believe. And with prices of the real and rare super-duties going through the roof, owning the next best thing for almost half the money is maybe even better.
We feel these cars are unique and yes VERY rare seeing only so little were produced ( partially because of there high price tag) as they were WAY different than all other cars in that year. They were the last of the true muscle cars and with there special handling and performance package, their smooth body lines and added aerodynamic spoilers and skirts the looked mean and fast as well. With the addition of the all-new decal hood eagle (the first year these were used), it made these cars eccentric. If you never drove a Pontiac Firebird, its hard to explain the feeling of these cars, but you have to trust us in the fact they have a real special feel in a mix of very comfortable and sporty combined.
Try it once and you will never forget it. The early Trans-am's are highly wanted and collectible and their values are rising extremely fast because of that. Finding a car that is really original and comes with its correct and numbers matching drivetrain and its 4 speed and options is even rarer and they are very valuable. Finding a car in this color and with these options is thereby a rare thing, even we at PTTM with all our contacts and market knowledge we rarely came across such a nice example as this one With the T/A super duty cars being sold for more than 150k, the 455 and especially the 4 speeds, seeing they were in the same performance range, will keep rising in value for many more years to come. According to some experts, the 73 Transam with the right colors and options can be worth around 75-100k+ easy in restored condition but that's far away from our asking price. But besides the above, these classic muscle cars are also a very good and solid investment that you can drive and enjoy, what more can you ask for?
The car has all the correct body vin numbers , original cowl tag, and PHS to prove its original pedigree. The body panels are really straight, the paint is VERY nice with a very high gloss, the interior is flawless and the dash and gauges all perfect and functional. The underside of the car is very clean and correct and the car's additional options are all there. Of course, a 45-year-old car, even if restored has its little signs of being driven, but this car is one of the best we have seen in a long time. Its a car that's still highly the same as the day it left the factory and not all cut up and changed as so many of these cars have these days. These 73 T/A are real iconic classic cars and in a league of there own.
