Ultra rare 1 of 1 1972 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS U code 396 big block !, SURVIVOR with 28000! original miles, numbers matching investment grade car.The car is a true and unbelievable survivor car! ( all factory original, never restored ) but besides that unique fact, the car is ALSO in AS NEW factory original condition and that's even more rare than the survivor aspect alone.. How unique this car is, we will explain below. This amazing find is a true survivor car and in the rare factory original midnight bronze paint color and de-luxe houndstooth style interior that looks amazing on the car. The car is loaded with options and everything on this car is not only original but also fully functional. The engine and driveline are almost still as new and in very healthy condition and it drives just like the day it left the factory in 1972!
You need to see the car in person to understand its full glory, its amazing color combination and its absolute 100% originality !. The midnight bronze metallic paint looks fantastic on this car and the color looks different with every angle you look at it. This combined with the special SS rally wheels and special interior trim, and the RS-specific nose cone and split bumpers ( RS only ! ) makes this ride something really special. Finding such a great piece of muscle car history is rare in itself, but finding it in this condition is like a needle in a haystack! Everything on or inside the car is original and super-deluxe in style and options. This car is a true gentleman's sports- muscle car. In our more than 35 years of hunting and finding great quality car's, we have never had a car that survived all those years in this amazing condition.
1972 was not a good year for the Chevrolet. For 174 days production ceased at GM's assembly plant in Ohio due to a UAW strike. This resulted in 1,100 Camaro's failing to meet Federal bumper safety standards. In total, only 68,656 examples were produced. Less than a thousand were equipped with the SS package so General Motors decided to no longer offer the package after 1972. This also meant the 1973 big-block 396 cubic-inch engine was no longer offered. And only a total of 300 ! cars were built with the RS and SS packages and an ever smaller amount was built with the LS3 396 big block. The RS option package was the only way to get the highly desirable dual headlights, the true shark nose style extended grill peace, split front bumpers, a blacked out tail section and some other special details. When combined with the SS sport package the car didn't receive the RS but SS emblems all around the car.
The LS3 engine might not have made the highest HP ever in a Camaro, but for sure the torque of this monster engine was enormous and in 1972 it was still one hell of a fast ride. Besides that the factory big block's from Chevy are amongst the finest running engines ever produced and the sound of these engines is legendary up until today. You cant compare it with any small block engine no matter how much HP it might have. The 396's and other big block cars run smooth as silk and with a minimum of mechanical engine noise. Combined with the hi-performance TH400 transmission this car is a blast to drive, cruise or race. The standard SS package in 1972 contained a modified 350 V8 producing 200hp, along with distinctive trim including a blacked-out grille with the SS emblem. This Camaro was ordered with both the combo RS/SS package and was upgraded with tons of options and the highly desirable LS3 -396 300hp Big block and the extra cost TH400 transmission option as well. Distinguishable for the new year was a grill with a large egg crate look. Three-point shoulder belts were installed for the first time, and this year would be the last year SS models were produced until 1996. The RS package included numerous cosmetic changes including a distinctive front-end look that most noticeably featured two front bumpers on the left and right of the nose of the car instead of the normal full-width bumper. Virtually identical to the previous year.
The RS and SS packages could be ordered together, creating the RS/SS Camaro. The combination included both the sporty aesthetics of the RS and the performance of the SS and for sure THIS BABY IS RARE!!! , and that's even besides the fact that it carries an amazing and stunning looking color combination and the fact that its a survivor car with its complete numbers matching driveline as well. What more could a muscle car fan or collector ask for ?. This is one of only 300 cars build with the RS&SS package (RS/SS) And of these 300 SS/RS cars produced, only a very small amount were equipped with the LS3 big block!Combined with the cars long list of options, the TH400 transmission and its rare color combination we estimate, but almost know for SURE, its a real 1 of 1 ever build car. But besides this rare car, there might only be 35-75 RS/SS 396 cars EVER build in total ( automatic and 4 speeds combined) and that's also super low, even without taking this cars options and color combination in mind. And how many of them are still around today ? or even numbers match? It's for sure a very high collectible car and one that gives great fun to drive, show and enjoy ! as well.
The body of the car is laser straight, all the emblems, chrome, glass, paint, driveline, brakes and suspension and steering and the complete interior of the car, yes even the factory floor mats are still in place and in amazing condition. Yes the car has a few very, very minor places were you can tell it was driven, but that's part of this car's history and pedigree, but we assure you that it's almost not noticeable. The engine bay is untouched and we didn't upgrade or paint the engine! ( to keep the original patina ), and the car also had its original spare tire and jack and jack instruction sticker. Super rare indeed. The underside of this car might well be the most stunning part of the whole car. Wow! This is ultra clean and completely bone stock up until the rare exhaust heat shields that are still in place. The complete underside is still in the factory original red oxide coating ( Norwood plant build cars only) and it looks like somebody just applied it a week ago WOW !. Even the fuel and brake lines, the suspension, rear axle, leaf springs and frame rails look amazing, undamaged and in very healthy condition. Its almost if the car didn't even drive the 28000 miles it has on the odometer. But for sure it NEVER ever saw a drop of rain, snow or sand in its entire life. It's truly amazing and fantastic to see such an original car, we just stood and watched and inspected it with our jaw's wide open... Come and see it for yourself! The interior car might well be one of the rarest we have ever seen in any Camaro, its a fantastic mix of deluxe, sportiness and a perfect balance of light and darker colors combined that match up perfectly with the midnight bronze factory paint of the car and the RS/SS options. Seeing this car is also LOADED with special factory options, the price tag on this car new must have been staggering!
From factory air conditioning, Th400 automatic trans, deluxe interior with rare special custom trim, the full rally dash with wood grain panels and the desirable horse-shoe floor shifter with shift indicator on the dash , the floor shifter console, and the push button AM/FM radio ( FM wasn't even in the air back in those days) , the power disc brakes and power steer and much more, everything you could buy as an option seems to be in this car.. unbelievable! We estimate the new price of this cars option packages was almost the same as the price of 2 ! base Camaro's! With a total price tag of more than 5250,-! Usd, final cost and delivery included this car was more expensive than a Hemi Cuda, a Dodge Daytona or even a Porsche ! in those days. Which tells you how rare and expensive this car must have been and still is. We almost think and believe that this car must have been a factory dealer show car or even an executive car, but too bad we have no hard proof to back that up as no build sheet was found in the car although the car its self and all its factory original parts is proof enough of it being correct. But we can tell you its the highest optioned 72 Camaro we have ever seen! and might well be the highest opted 72 Camaro worldwide !. Whoever bought this car new really got something really special as the car not only has all the luxury options you could want but also all performance options up to the performance rear axle and 3.31 rear end gears!
This beauty is hereby one of the most rare and highest desirable Camaro's you could want, its a true survivor without ANY need to restore it as it already looks like new, its loaded with anything you could lay your hands on in the 70's, its an amazing color combination ( especially for a Camaro), it's undamaged, rust free and a true all matching number big block muscle car. These are the car's that are very collectible and the best investment grade cars you can find. But the next best good thing is that you can also drive and enjoy it !. It's a very special feel to drive an all survivor type of car. The drive in a way only true original car's can and you get the feeling to go back in time, just like the first owner must have felt back in 1972. We haven't changed or improved anything on the car, and how it's in our showroom is exactly as the car survived all those years. Besides a wash and clean up and a full service and engine test check as well as a full service with new oils and filters we did nothing else to the car as it didn't need it and we wanted the car to stay as the survivor it has been for all those years. Of course your free to upgrade some little details, but we didn't feel it needed it. This car is exactly as it came to us and as it survived for all those years.
These are the cars that we keep in our "private collection", as we don't just want to sell them to anybody who offers money on them, no sir, we want to make sure they go to owners who take great care of these cars just like the previous owner(s) have done for more than 45 years. So we hope to find these collection cars future buyers that will enjoy and pamper them because they deserve it. Their historical icons and we hope that can stay that way for many more decades to come. So if your interested in purchasing this car, just contact our sales to discuss it, but its even better than you come by in person to see it and we can discuss prices and other details.
