Real deal 1970 V code Plymouth Roadrunner 440-6 ( Sixpack) 4-speed Supertrack pack and Airgrabber car!
Its fully original and correct to its build sheet and fender tag and all body numbers and Engine and Trans Vin numbers match to the car. The car was high-quality Rotisserie restored by PedalToTheMetal and the work was finished in 2014. A very rare and highly collectible car!
Everything you see on the car was either new, restored or rebuilt to the best possible standards. This rare car is also build to be driven and is not JUST a showpiece. Its one of only a hand full 1970 440-6 4 speed cars left in existence today and in this color and option combination it was one of a hand full build when new. There were only a total of 693- 4 speeds build ! and this car has the highly wanted Super track pack rear axle package with 4.10 gears and also the MUST HAVE air grabber intake system. It's a true icon ! and highly collectible.
The Plymouth roadrunner was, in its time, a true street racer and developed on the B.Body platform by Chrysler. The first model was introduced in 1968 and a complete facelift was given for the 1970 model year and was again changed in 1971. This means the 1970 model is unique was only produced 1 year. With its fantastic name Roadrunner, which came from the worldwide known Roadrunner / Wile E. Coyote cartoons back in the 60's by Loony tunes, which represents the fast and untouchable Roadrunner bird that featured in the cartoon. With its famous call, MIEP MIEP, it ran off like a bat out of hell and was never caught by the coyote or anything else. This was also true for the car, the Roadrunner was a sleek, non-deluxe car and purely build and marketed for the younger car buyer that wanted performance and to be "untouchable" on the streets and at the stop signs.
The cars had special performance engines, starting with the 383 big block that put out 335HP, than came the 440-6 engine ( the Roadrunners were never equipped with the 440 engine, as that was reserved for the GTX model) with 390HP and an estimated 395HP for the air grabber version and as top of the line the Hemi 426 engine with 425HP. All engines could be had with either an automatic transmission ( TF 727) or the more suitable option for a street performance car the 4 speed with the famous 4-speed pistol grip. In the end, all 3 engines were underrated and had up to 30% more power than Chrysler listed which was due to the fact that the cars otherwise would not be insurable as insurance companies banned the real high-performance cars.
All in all the Roadrunner was the car to have back in the late 60's and early 70's and when equipped with the famous 440-6 engine ( with 3x2 Holley carb's and special intake) 4 speed and the race rear axle package ( Super track pack) with their 4.10 rear end gears, these cars were amongst the fastest car of there era. We have also heard and found that the Sixpack cars were FASTER than the Hemi cars and especially when equipped with the 4 speeds. ( A 4-speed car brings more than 25% more power to the rear axle than an automatic car) These cars did 0.60 ( 0-100) in 5 seconds ! and even by today's standards, these cars are still amongst the fastest's cars around! So this particular Roadrunner, that we are proud to offer to our clients, is still one of the fastest's and highest output V8 cars around. Combined with its Airgrabber hood, its manual 4 speed and 425+HP engine it's a TRUE performance classic car. For a 45-year-old car, that's truly AMAZING !. And that in combination with the cars name, humorous roadrunner and Wil e coyote's decals and emblems.. its real MIEP MIEP sounding airhorn, and its sleek and aggressive body lines makes this car great to have, drive and enjoy.
The fact that its numbers match and have its original factory build sheet and fender tag still present to prove its pedigree makes the car even more rare and unique. And that's what's makes this car a true and rare collector car and a great investment with prices of these rare and correct original cars keeping ricing in the years to come. When was the last time you saw an all original 70'RR 440+6, 4 speed, Dana 60 car ALL MATCH and restored to this quality?
The quality of the car is truly stunning and it looks like it just came new from the showroom floor back in 1970, although we feel it might even be more than new seeing the quality of the paint, engine in and externals, the highly detailed underside, ( the car has a painted underside that looks just as amazing as the top !) and every nut, bolt, screw, and wire was redone to as new or better condition. (More than 125000,- was spend in the restoration alone) The last owner and PTTM speed shop spend more than 2000 hours in the restoration. Its now for sale because the owner ( a true Mopar guy ) would like to start a new project soon. The car was driven for approx.1500 miles since it was built and it runs, drives, brakes and steers fantastic and everything works as it should!
